Joyce Foster (D-Denver) asked insurance broker/insurance underwriters representative Jamie Scholl why women pay more than men for health insurance in the individual insurance market. His answer: "You'll have to ask God, because he put our parts on the outside and yours on the inside." Crude and laughable, but the rest of the insurance industry's reasoning basically follows the same appalling logic (and just for emphasis, he repeated his response in the afternoon session). Women are complicated and more health conscious, therefore more expensive. Men are simpler and less likely to see a doctor, therefore cheaper. Another health insurance lobbyist backed him up in the Denver Post, telling a reporter that women's health care is more expensive because their reproductive systems are more complex and require more complicated, costly and risky procedures.

Obama suggests that government cure the problems and high costs of government-run healthcare (Medicare, Medicaid) by forcing government to take over all healthcare? He wants to spend an additional trillion dollars to save money? The answer is to allow the American consumer to buy any policy, in any state, that best fits their family's needs, without government mandating what should be included in that policy.
County Looks At Self-Funded Insurance Program, SPLOST Agreement
The Floyd County Commission has voted to switch to a self-funded health insurance program. The city of Rome switched to a self-funded programs several years ago with much success. Under self-funded insurance, an employer decides on a plan of employee benefits that may be changed to reflect the goals and attitude of the management team. A benefit of self-funded insurance includes the possibility for an employer to reduce operating costs significantly and maintain control of reserves usually held by insurance companies. Advantages of self-funded insurance include: Elimination of most premium tax. Lower cost of operation. Carrier profit margin and risk charge eliminated. Effective claim processing. Cost and utilization controls.
Green motorists might get insurance discount
Participants in a No Driving Day program could earn a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance fees as early as December, the Financial Supervisory Service announced yesterday.Under the program, which started in Seoul in 2003 and later expanded to Gyeonggi and Daegu, drivers pledge not to drive on a certain day of the week. To further entice motorists to participate, the FSS said it is exploring the idea of slashing insurance costs for those green drivers. The organization said yesterday that it has teamed up with insurance companies to form a task force that will look into the issue and other low-carbon, green growth initiatives.The FSS expects to release details next month and said the discounts could be offered as early as December.��We are currently in negotiations with the insurance companies to provide discounts of up to 10 percent,�� the official said, requesting anonymity.
