| Storm Watch Gives Insurance Companies Practice
State Farm has the majority of homeowner insurance policies in Hawaii. To say the company tracks storms is an understatement. "As we speak there are storms off South Africa and Mexico, other storms that we continue to watch," said Carolyn Fujioka, State Farm public affairs director. The company can call for reinforcements from the mainland if a disaster warrants it. "They can bring in extra equipment, extra people to help. And these would be people who are trained to respond to disasters," Fujioka said. Insurance companies use a triage system for assessing property damage. The worst cases come first. "A hurricane could hit and we must be prepared even though we've been lucky for the last few years," Perkins said.
How Healthcare Killed His Father
Health insurance is different from every other type of insurance. Health insurance is the primary payment mechanism not just for expenses that are unexpected and large, but for nearly all health-care expenses. We've become so used to health insurance that we don't realize how absurd that is. We can't imagine paying for gas with our auto-insurance policy, or for our electric bills with our homeowners insurance, but we all assume that our regular checkups and dental cleanings will be covered at least partially by insurance. Comprehensive health insurance is such an ingrained element of our thinking, we forget that its rise to dominance is relatively recent. Modern group health insurance was introduced in 1929, and employer-based insurance began to blossom during World War II, when wage freezes prompted employers to expand other benefits as a way of attracting workers.
Citizens insurance fee to dip
Louisiana property owners will pay a reduced emergency assessment of 4.3 percent on their insurance policies next year, down from 5 percent, to cover the debt service of the state’s insurer of last resort. The Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp. board approved the assessment Thursday. The annual fee is expected to generate $86 million to help Citizens pay off the close to $1 billion it borrowed to pay its Hurricane Katrina claims. The fee is paid by homeowners and commercial insurance policyholders, whether insured by Citizens or private firms. If a homeowner’s premium is $2,000, at 5 percent the Citizens’ assessment would be $100, Citizens Chief Financial Officer Steve Cottrell said. At 4.3 percent, the assessment would be $86, or $14 less for policyholders.
Carefree fire insurance (ISO) rating lowered
Town officials were notified the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) had lowered Carefree's ISO rating from a 6 to a 3, which should lead to lower rates for many homeowners. The change generally affects homes within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant and within five miles of the Carefree Fire Station. Homes in Carefree, which are not within 1,000 feet of a hydrant or five miles of the fire station, will continue to have an ISO rating of 9. "Three is a darn good rating," Rural Metro Fire Chief John Kraetz said. "Scottsdale and Paradise Valley only have threes." Carefree has had an aggressive fire hydrant installation program for years. Whenever there is money in the budget a portion of it goes toward new fire hydrants. Many of them have been in the Carefree Highlands. Kraetz also announced that Carefree has entered into an Arizona Mutual Aid Compact, which would activate resources from other communities during emergencies.
Health care never has been a right
Health insurance has never been a right and neither has auto insurance, homeowners insurance, liability insurance, or any other Insurance for that matter. The government should not get involved in that unless they do it as an employer. there are several ways that uninsured people can get medical coverage. Of the 49 million of uninsured, 12 million of them should go back to the country of their origin. A big percentage of the rest should stop going on expensive vacations, buying homes they can't afford, or spending money like it's on fire. People that are working poor need our help. The state, federal government, and your previous employer pay into unemployment Insurance. I think the state should add you to their health insurance carriers, have you pay the employee part and get coverage that way.
