Health care never has been a right

Health insurance has never been a right and neither has auto insurance, homeowners insurance, liability insurance, or any other Insurance for that matter.

The government should not get involved in that unless they do it as an employer. there are several ways that uninsured people can get medical coverage. Of the 49 million of uninsured, 12 million of them should go back to the country of their origin. A big percentage of the rest should stop going on expensive vacations, buying homes they can't afford, or spending money like it's on fire.

People that are working poor need our help. The state, federal government, and your previous employer pay into unemployment Insurance. I think the state should add you to their health insurance carriers, have you pay the employee part and get coverage that way.

Georgia Bans 2 Organizations' 'Insurance' Sales

Georgia Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine has ordered two organizations allegedly acting as unlicensed insurers to stop selling insurance-like products.

The two groups are The Butler Aid Society and God First Missionary Membership Association and Floral Club, both located in Butler. Both organizations offered cash payments to members upon death, though neither entity is a licensed insurance company or registered as a pre-need funeral business, Oxendine said.

"There's a serious financial risk to consumers whenever you have a small operation like this, run out of somebody's hip pocket without proper capitalization and regulatory oversight," Oxendine said.

The God First Association is affiliated with the Charles W. McDougal Funeral Home, also in Butler, and offered a burial vault, standard headstone and discounts on funeral services, as well as a cash payout.

Homeowners Choice profits with Citizens policy pickups

Revenue, primarily from insurance premiums, nearly doubled in the three months that ended June 30 to $20.4 million, compared with $10.5 million in the same period a year earlier.

The increase primarily was the result of policy growth driven by the assumption of policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corp., a release said.

Expenses also increased during the second quarter of 2009. Loss and loss adjustment expense, the bulk of the total expenses, was $12.6 million in the three months that ended June 30, compared with $4.2 million in the prior-year period. The increase reflects the impact of claims incurred and an increase in claim reserves resulting primarily from the increase in policies and insured values, the release said.

The rise in insured values, as well as increased insurance rates, means reinsurance will be a greater percent of gross earned premium through the rest of 2009, F.X.
