| Towns work to lessen impact of FEMA maps
Thousands of Bayshore residents are still on track to pay hundreds of dollars for flood insurance come Sept. 25, despite the efforts of local, state and federal leaders. A lawsuit from Monmouth County, a congressional bill from U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6th District), and appeals from affected municipalities have yet to stop or even delay the planned Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Map. The map, which was drawn up by FEMA engineers in February 2008, marks what areas of the region have at least a 1 percent chance of flooding each year, commonly called "a 100-year flood." The government mandates that federally regulated lenders require mortgaged homes in these areas to have flood insurance, according to floodsmart.gov, the website to FEMA's flood insurance program.
Geico Motorcycle Insurance - Insurance 101
We all take pride and joy in our motorcycles. Unlike our four wheeled vehicles, we tend to put more time, effort, devotion, and often money into the upkeep, and continual customization of our bikes. Therefore when it comes to insuring our bikes a lot of questions tend to arise, such as "what if I get in an accident," or worse "what if my bike is stolen, how will I get all that money back that I put into my bike?" Well, the staff here at HOT BIKE had a lot of questions about insurance too, so we decided to hit up a couple of companies, GEICO and Progressive Insurance with some of the more common questions that tend to arise. GEICO InsuranceHB: What kind of insurance do you offer for motorcycle riders?GEICO: We offer liability coverage for asset protection, medical payments coverage, and uninsured motorist coverages for potential medical bills, and comprehensive and collision to protect riders' bikes.
Insurance giant Axa to cut 350 jobs
A further 350 jobs are to be cut at insurance giant Axa as the group's UK arm ramps up annual cost savings to £150 million. The reductions are planned within Axa UK's life business, which has offices in Bristol, Basingstoke, Coventry and an offshore base in the Isle of Man. Axa said it is extending a three-year cost cutting programme announced last August, from £80 million to £150 million. Axa said it was consulting unions over the job cuts - representing around 10% of its UK life workforce - and hoped to reduce roles where possible through staff turnover and redeployment. The group has already announced more than 1,000 headcount reductions over the past year. It unveiled plans to reduce its UK support services operation by 500 staff last August, followed more recently with news in June of around 560 job losses in its insurance division.
List goals before choosing life insurance
Question: I have read a number of articles recently in the newspapers regarding the need for life insurance policies and have become rather confused. There seem to be many different types, so how do I make the right choice? Furthermore, I own a valuable property back in my home country which could be sold to provide for my family in the event of my early demise, so why should I take out life insurance? Answer: There is an old saying from the UK that goes: "There are only two certainties in life - death and taxes". As there are no personal taxes in this part of the world, that only leaves death as the most certain thing in life. .
